Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa Lakes Women’s Soccer team played host to Hawkeye on Wednesday afternoon for the NJCAA Division II Region 11 Semifinals. News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD brought the coverage on the airwaves.

The Lakers were able to break the ice midway through the first half when Stina Mathews delivered a Corner Kick that bounced from the Red Tail Goalkeeper on an attempted block and into the goal.

Iowa Lakes kept the Hawkeye offense in check, with no real comfortable looks at the goal for the Red Tails.

It took till late in the second half before the next goal was scored. A strong offensive attack was capped off by a goal from the Laker leader in that category Ana Zamarano.

That gave Iowa Lakes more than enough cushion as the take their number one seed into the Regional Championship match.

Iowa Lakes and Northeast will play on Saturday at 2:00 for the NJCAA Region 11 Championship in Spencer. News Radio 102.5 and Am 1240 KICD will bring the coverage along with SMUnet.net and Spencer Channel 3.

The Iowa Lakes Men played later that afternoon against Northeast for the NJCAA Division II Region 11 Semifinal in Spencer.

The Lakers came away with a convincing 4-1 win over a team that bested Iowa Lakes 3-1 earlier in the year. Iowa Lakes will try to claim the Regional Championship when they host the #2 seed Southeastern at 2:00 on Sunday. That will also be a contest you can hear on News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD.
