Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Spencer Schools are feeling the effects of losing over 70% of residential housing in the 2024 Flood disaster. Certified enrollment numbers announced this week are down for a second year, and Superintendent Terry Hemann isn’t surprised:
Hemann says there are some bright spots in the numbers.
This year the school district has a guaranteed budget due to hardships during the flooding last year, but it’s only a one year guarantee. Hemann acknowledges next year could be a challenge, with no guarantee, and the trend is leaning towards lower enrollment in the future.
The Spencer School Board will have their next regular meeting November 26th.
