Estherville, IA (KICD) — An Estherville teen has died from injuries they received in a car vs bicycle accident.

Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens says the communications center received a 911 call a bit before 6 P.M. Friday from a caller who reported being flagged down by the driver of a vehicle who reported that they had struck a bicyclist in the 3900 block of 5th Avenue.

After an investigation, the office determined that a westbound 2005 Mini-cooper being driven by 66-year-old Gary Clymer of Estherville struck a westbound bicycle ridden by 16-year-old Desean Hoffman of Estherville.

Hoffman was taken to Avera Holy Family Hospital by Ambulance for treatment of his injuries and later taken to Sioux Falls by helicopter. The office says Hoffman later passed away on Saturday.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
