Spencer, IA (KICD) — One person was sent to the hospital after Spencer Police responded to a report of a reckless driver Thursday morning.

The Spencer Police Department says the report stated that the driver was traveling southbound on Highway 71 from 310th street. Upon initial contact, Police say a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by 27-year-old Megan Lange of Spencer, veered into the oncoming northbound lane, nearly striking a responding law enforcement vehicle. Lange was then observed by law enforcement leaving the roadway in the 1900 block of Highway Blvd, traveling southbound at around 89 miles per hour.

Upon leaving the roadway, the vehicle struck two Chevrolet Traverses which were legally parked. One of the Traverses was forced into a Dodge Ram Truck. The force of the collision caused the other Traverse to turn 180 degrees hitting a Dodge Grand Caravan.

Police say Lange stated that she had little sleep the night prior and that fatigue was a factor in the crash. Lange was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital for observation of unknown injuries.

Charges in the incident are pending.
