Hospers, IA (KICD)—A home about six miles northeast of Hospers is being considered a total loss despite several Northwest Iowa fire departments spending more than four hours Friday working to knock down a fire.
Sheldon fire crews were the first one dispatched to 4835 380th Street shortly after 8:15 Friday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters found one room of the home was fully engulfed in flames with fire also seen in the attic vent area.
That led to the Hospers, Granville and Sanborn Fire Departments all being called in for mutual aid which largely became an exterior attack due to heavy levels of smoke keeping crews from being able to navigate the inside of the home until flames were knocked down.
The house is said to be uninhabitable due to extensive fire, smoke and water damage. The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electric heater on the second level.
