Spencer, IA (KICD)–The Spencer Hospital is launching a hospitalist program.

Vice President of patient care Brenda Tiefenthaler tells KICD News that a hospitalist is a physician who wants to specialize in seeing patients at the hospital.

Utilization of the hospitalist service will be the decision of the local physician at the time of admission.

Dr. Brian Dvorak, a long-time family practice physician with Avera Medical Group Spencer, is transitioning out of his traditional family medicine practice to serve as Spencer Hospital s first hospitalist. He will remain a partner with Avera Medical Group Spencer and when a second hospitalist is recruited, that physician will also join the local family practice group.
