Spencer, IA (KICD) — A candidate forum for House District 2 was held Monday night at the Spencer City Hall Council Chambers hosted by various members of the local media.

Republican Incumbent Megan Jones and Democratic Candidate Ryan Odor discussed many different issues, ranging from healthcare to economic development.  One of the highlights was when they were asked how they feel about the privatization of Medicaid.

Jones says before privatization the system was unsustainable, saying the cost of the program was growing too much.

Odor says the privatization of Medicaid has been quite negative for the care the people of Iowa receive.

Up next was the issue of abortion, specifically focused on the Heartbeat bill, which Jones was quite firm on, listing the bills she had been in support of.

Odor said he believes the option to have an abortion should be a personal choice, however the issue of abortion runs much deeper than it appears on the surface.

Both seemed to agree that the core of the abortion issue was prevention, talking about such things as the bi-partisan effort on making birth control more accessible and Iowa’s safe haven law.
