Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Iowa State Patrol is stepping up its enforcement in attempt to slow the number of fatalities related to crashes.

Trooper Kevin Krull tells KICD News as of Thursday morning 76 people had lost their lives already this year which more than a twenty percent increase over last year which hit a five-year high.

Trooper Krull says the State Patrol will be focusing on the far western part of the area on Friday, but added enforcement will also be seen by officers making the trip to be part of the project.

Krull adds it is important this time of year to have some extra patience when traveling and to allow extra time in the event you happen to get behind a piece of farm machinery trying to get into the fields.
