IA (KICD) — On Friday a Northwest Iowa tradition took place to raise funds for the Easter Seals.
The Pony Express Riders of Iowa made their annual trek to raise money for the Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside.
Dickinson County Riders started in Lake Park at 8 A.M and then canvassed Spirit Lake until they rode through Okoboji, Arnolds Park and Milford. A dance and auction was also held Friday night at Mill Creek in Milford.
In Palo Alto County the ride began at 6:30 A.M. in Mallard, then on to Curlew, Ayshire, Graettinger, Ruthven and Emmetsburg.
Riders also came to the Spencer area where they provided horse rides, KICD’s own Katie Johnson also assisted in giving the rides.
In total more than $8,000 was raised by the rides from all the towns combined.
Today more than 300 riders on horseback from across the state will be in Des Moines to deliver the donations.
In the 50-year history of the ride which started here in Northwest Iowa, the group has donated more than $10 million to support the Easter Seals of Iowa and Camp Sunnyside.
