Sioux County Issues Wind and Solar Moratorium

Orange City, IA (KICD) — No wind turbines or solar panels can be erected in Sioux County for the next year. The board of supervisors has passed a moratorium saying that they, the Zoning Board, and the Board of Adjustment will not receive, review, or consider any new projects for the next twelve months.
Planning and Zoning Administrator Shane Walter says the intent of the moratorium is to give the county time to wright a new ordinance that will establish criteria for new developments that prohibit ag land from being taken out of production.
A citizen’s group in Dickinson County who say wind farms are noisy, ugly, and impact bird migration is pressing the board of supervisors there to enact a similar moratorium.
