Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council on Monday gave its approval to hire an outside firm to help find the community’s next Finance Director.

City Manager Dan Gifford noted the recommendation to go this direction comes because of Hinson Consulting’s connections in the field.

Gifford adds the initial search for qualified candidates will be the only piece that is done externally before the rest the hiring process is handled in house, but there is no specific timeline in place for how long it could take to find the right fit.

The search for a Finance Director comes following Brian Weuve’s announcement last week that will be leaving Spencer next month for a position in Pella. The City has approved the hiring of former City Manager Bob Fagan to serve on an interim basis for up to eight weeks to help bridge the gap until a permanent replacement can be found.
