Spencer, IA (KICD) — A Spencer business that’s been around since 1948 will be closing its doors later this year.

Mike Heffernen is an owner of Spencer Sewing Machine Company. He tells KICD News it was time as sales have dropped off.

Heffernen says he and his wife Lisa have been active members of the Spencer Community since they purchased the company 16 years ago.

The plan as of now is to close for business at the the end of May, but Heffernen says an exact date will depend on their remaining inventory.
