Spirit Lake, IA (KICD) — An out-of-control burn is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a business along Highway 71 in Spirit Lake Friday morning. Emergency crews were called to Golden Buys Truckload Outlet around 8:30, where Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly says flames and heavy smoke could be seen as units approached.
Highway 71 through the area was closed for several hours as a safety precaution and allowed firefighters from around Dickinson County to get the blaze under control.
Everyone inside the building when the fire started was able to escape without injury. Fire crews remained at the scene through the afternoon, putting out hot spots and overhauling the destroyed building.
