Sioux City, IA (KICD) — Additional testing is needed to determine the cause of death of a man acquitted of murder.
On Monday, a state medical official said that the additional testing is needed to completely determine the cause and manner of death of Jesse Wendelsdorf. After an autopsy was performed Saturday, the Deputy State Medical Examiner Dennis Klein said more testing was needed to determine the cause of death.
The DCI said there was some concern of if the death was an accidental or not, as Wendelsdorf did have a criminal past. It may take up to a month to get the final decision made. A toxicology test was ordered, and could take anywhere from 6 to 8 weeks to get completed.
Wendelsdorf was charged with first-degree murder after the Jan. 4th, 2000, death of Shelby Duis. The victim’s battered and bloody body was found in a bedroom of their Spirit Lake home.
