10 Years in Prison for Impersonating Law Enforcement Officer

Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — The Buena Vista County Attorney’s office released information on a conviction this week in Iowa District Court concerning Trenton Miller of Altoona.Mugshot of a man in an orange prison uniform with inmate number 59924 on his chest.

On April 20, 2026, 26-year-old Trenton Miller of Altoona was sentenced to a maximum of 10 years in prison following a violent incident in Alta. In February 2026, Miller impersonated a law enforcement officer to gain entry into a home, where he brandished a firearm, struck a victim in the face, and stole a cellphone. Miller pleaded guilty to several charges, including Willful Injury and Going Armed with Intent, while remaining charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

The investigation was led by the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office, with Judge Carl Petersen ordering the sentences for all counts to run concurrently.
