Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Iowa High School Fall Sports seasons are underway this week, and a lot of Cross-Country teams prepare for their first competition on Thursday.

Last season, the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Boys claimed the War Eagle Conference Title. They graduate quite a bit from that team but have brought in some new faces. Head Coach Nathan Hoaglund talked about some of the “Hallway Recruiting” that needs to go on some years in Cross Country.

Sibley-Ocheyedan is new to the conference after many years of being one of the stronger Cross-Country programs in the Siouxland. Ryan Wiersma is the head coach of the General girls and boys and doesn’t expect much to change for Sibley-Ocheyedan competition wise.

There aren’t a lot of weeks in the season to spread out the allotted amount of meets that Cross Country teams are given, so that means some short rest in between competitions over the course of the year. Jeremy Lansink, head coach of South O’Brien’s Cross-Country teams, told Northwest Iowa Now how they manage the quick turnarounds.
