Cherokee, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Cherokee hosted the 2026 Boys Tomahawk Relays with Spencer also attending from the KICD 9-County Area on Monday.

The Tigers took the top two spots in the 2A High Jump with Tate VonEhwegen clearing 5’10” to take 1st and Collin Cantral breaking a 3-way tie via attempts at 5’8” to take 2nd.

Cirstian Mendez-Garcia of Spencer won the 2A Discus with a throw of 126’11”.

Cherokee’s Cohen James won the 1A Discus at 132’1”.

In the 2A Shot Put, Spencer’s Cole Ferrell took 3rd at 41’8”.

For the 1A Shot Put, Blake Lovell of Cherokee won with a mark of 54’4”.

Spencer’s Javin Smith-Williamson took 1st in the Wheelchair Shot Put with a throw of 15’11”.

In the 2A Long Jump, Aaden Techen of Spencer was 3rd at 18’0.75”.

For the 1A Boys Long Jump, Cherokee went 2nd and 3rd with Yolbis Leyva Cedeno at 17’8” and Wyatt Ludvigson marking 16’5.5”.

Spencer’s 800m Sprint Medley Relay team of Lovan, Buum, Rasmussen, and Timmer was 2nd in 2A at 1:37.39.

In the 2A 4x800m Relay, Spencer’s team of Anderson, Rodriguez, Hernandez-Cole, and Rustad took 1st with a time of 8:48.91.

For the 1A 4x110m Shuttle Hurdle Relay, Cherokee put together a team of Richardson, Mizner-Fundermann, Malausky, and Carson to win with a time of 1:05.48.

Jaxson Buum of Spencer took 1st in the 2A 100m Dash with a time of 11.49 seconds.

In the 1A 100m Dash, Jaxon Paulsrud of Cherokee took 1st with a time of 11.48 seconds.

For the 1A 400m Dash, Paulsrud won as well with a time of 53.2 seconds.

The Spencer 4x200m Relay team of Rasmussen, Buum, Timmer, and VonEhwegen took 2nd at 1:32.36.

In the 2A 110m Hurdles, Jivahny Lovan of Spencer was 2nd with a time of 15.15 seconds.

For the 1A 110m Hurdles, Cherokee’s Mallon Malausky won with a time of 16.35 seconds.

Korbin Stanzel of Spencer took 3rd in the 2A 200m Dash with a time of 24.44 seconds.

In the 1A 400m Hurdles, Cherokee’s Grady Mizner-Funderman took 2nd with a time of 1:02.86.

For the 2A 1600m Run, Nathan Rodriguez of Spencer took 2nd at 5:00.47.

The Braves took 1st and 2nd in the 1A 1600m Run with Clayton Scherbring running 4:51.7 and Yolbis Leyva-Cedeno taking 2nd at 4:54.05.

In the 2A 4x100m Relay, Spencer was 2nd with a team of Lovan, Buum, Stanzel, and Goyette clocking 46.17 seconds.

For the 1A 4x100m Relay, Cherokee’s team of Lovell, Malausky, Paulsrud, and Carson took 1st with a time of 45.68 seconds.
