Spirit Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) The Dickinson County Conservation Board and the Conservation Foundation of Dickinson County have announced a major fundraising boost for the new Nature Playscape project. An anonymous donor has committed to matching every dollar contributed, up to a half-million dollars.

The new playscape, located near the Dickinson County Nature Center in Okoboji, will replace the current structure which was built in 2014 and has experienced significant wear. The new design will include a sand-digging area, a musical meadow, a swing garden, and a boardwalk with a wetland overlook.

Amy Heibult, Community Relations Coordinator for the Dickinson County Conservation Board, stated the project will “offer accessible and inspiring spaces where children can explore and grow for years to come.”

Pending fundraising success, construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2026 and is expected to be completed within two months. Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online, by mail, or in person at the Nature Center. You can find more information about the project at the Dickinson County Conservation Board’s website.
