Primghar, Iowa — A Cherokee man avoids prison but faces strict probation rules following a drug bust near Sanborn last fall.

Thirty-three-year-old Frank Bandomo was sentenced in O’Brien County District Court for third-offense possession of methamphetamine and psilocybin mushrooms. Instead of prison time, he received three years of probation and must reside at a residential treatment facility.

The case isn’t over for his brother, 40-year-old John Bandomo. He has pleaded not guilty to similar charges. His pretrial conference is set for January 26th in Primghar, with a trial scheduled to begin February 3rd at the O’Brien County Courthouse.

Both Bandomo’s were arrested on October 27 when they were found near Sanborn on Highway 18 in a parked car on the side of the road with hazard lights flashing. Police allege John was found asleep in the driver’s seat and Frank were found in the passenger seat. Drug and paraphernalia were located in the vehicle, and police also recovered more drugs after booking the brothers into the O’Brien County Jail.
