Clay County, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — A routine traffic stop in Clay County has resulted in drug and a host of traffic charges for an adult and a teenager.

It happened around one-thirty Saturday afternoon when a Clay County Deputy pulled over a vehicle for speeding.

Authorities say the deputy discovered the initial driver, a 16-year-old male from Cherokee, and his passenger, 20-year-old Natasha Ford of Aurelia, had switched seats while driving. The deputy also witnessed items being thrown from the car, which were later identified as marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A search of the vehicle turned up more drugs and paraphernalia.

Ford was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including Possession of Controlled Substance—Marijuana, Reckless Driving, Permitting an Unauthorized Minor to Drive, and No Seatbelt. She was later released on a one-thousand-dollar bond.

The 16-year-old male was also processed on drug and traffic charges, including Speeding and Violation of an Instruction Permit. He was released to the custody of his mother.
