Clay County Supervisors Public Hearing Well Attended

The Clay County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing Tuesday, March 31 on a proposed tax levy, facing a room of concerned residents before the final budget is set.

Residents voiced frustration over rising property taxes, citing concers that assessments are outstripping household income and inflation. Farmers specifically warned that any dip in agricultural land values could soon shift an even heavier tax burden onto residential homeowners.

Supervisors noted that the county’s fiscal record is strong, noting that while inflation has jumped 38% over the last decade, county spending has only grown by 13%.
