Arnolds Park, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has confirmed one fatality and five additional injuries after a collision of two boats on West Lake Okoboji Sunday afternoon.

Initial calls came in around 1pm from the Pillsbury Point area just West of the Arnolds Park Amusement Park.

The agency says the death and five injuries were all occupants of the same boat, with no injuries reported from passengers on the second craft. The five individuals were transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake or Spencer Hospital – three with serious injuries and two with minor injuries. All were wearing personal flotation devices.

Other agencies responding include: The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department; Arnolds Park and Milford Police Departments; and the Iowa State Patrol. Terril Ambulance was called to help with medical transports.

The DNR continues to investigate the accident but has already ruled out alcohol as a contributing factor.
