SHELDON, IA (Northwestiowanow) – The Sheldon Aquatic Center is inviting dogs to take over the pool this Sunday, August 24, for its annual Doggie Dip.

Before the pool closes for the season, dogs will get one hour to splash, swim, and socialize. Organizers say the event is a favorite among local pet owners. Last year, one dog reportedly jumped off the diving board — though no photo or video captured the moment. Attendees are hopeful for a repeat performance this year, and cameras are encouraged.

This year’s Doggie Dip also serves as a fundraiser for the Sheldon Police Department’s K9 program. Freewill donations will be accepted at the gate, with all proceeds supporting training, equipment, and care for the department’s working dogs.

The event runs from 5:15 to 6:15 PM. Dog owners are asked to bring towels, supervise their pets, and ensure dogs are friendly, spayed or neutered, and up to date on vaccinations. Dogs must remain leashed when not in the water.

For more information, contact the Sheldon Outdoor Aquatic Center at (712) – 324 – 2769 or follow local updates online.
