Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer hosted Sergeant Bluff-Luton for the regular season finale in Class 4A District 1.

After forcing a Spencer punt on their First drive, Beckett Veros took the first run from scrimmage for the Warriors 66 yards to the house to give Sergeant Bluff-Luton an early 7-0 lead.

The Tigers would throw an interception on the next drive, but after the Warriors botched a snap on the first play of their next drive, the Tigers were able to cash in with a 6-yard Touchdown run by Dylan Timmer to tie the game at 7.

The avalanche would start late in the 2nd quarter. Sergeant Bluff-Luton had a chance to go 2 for 1 with the Warriors getting the ball to start the second half and rattled off a 12 play 4-and-a-half-minute drive that Isaiah Jervick ended with a 40-yard Touchdown run. On the ensuing kick, the ball took a SB-L bounce off the one yard-line, downing Spencer on their own 4-yard line. After a Tiger 3-and-out, Sergeant Bluff-Luton scored again with just 1:04 left in the 2nd quarter on a 6-yard Touchdown run by Joe Hardy. Spencer threw an interception on their next drive, setting up a short field for the Warriors. SB-L capitalized on that turnover with a Jervik Touchdown pass to Gavin Warren, making it 27-7 at the half.

The Warriors would score on their first two drives of the second half, and Spencer picked up another Touchdown on a Dylan Timmer run, bringing us to our final score of 41-14.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton ran for 366 yards with 4 Touchdowns, led by Beckett Verros’ 151 yards on 10 carries and a Touchdown.

Leading Spencer was Dylan Timmer, carrying the football 14 times for 63 yards and 2 Touchdowns.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton takes the District 1 Crown after going 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the District. They await their playoff pairing for Class 4A which will come out tomorrow morning.

Spencer wraps up the season at 3-6 overall and finished fourth in the District with a 2-3 record.
