Ocheydan, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — U.S. Senator Joni Ernst has named Boernsen Bees of Osceola County as her Small Business of the Week.

Ernst, who chairs the Senate Small Business Committee, is planning to recognize a local business in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout this current Congress.

Boernsen Bees, based in Ocheyedan, was founded in 2004 by Marlene Boernsen to provide her children with natural foods. The company has since expanded its offerings to include over eighteen products, like creamed honey, honey lemonade, lip balms, and beeswax candles.

Senator Ernst praised the Osceola County family’s commitment to community education and environmental stewardship. Boernsen Bees also supports hobbyists and new beekeepers across the Midwest by providing bees and basic beekeeping supplies.
