Sheldon, IA (northwestiowanow.com) — Sheldon firefighters started their weekend with a fire at AG Processing at 804 2nd Avenue. Fire Chief Brad Hindt says they arrived to find not one, but TWO fires at active fires in the same structure. The Sanborn and Boyden fire departments were immediately called for backup with a request sent out to the Hospers fire department for more manpower.

Four firefighters entered the 3rd floor baghouse with 400 feet of supply line while a second four-member crew used a 700-foot supply line to attack the 2nd floor baghouse. Hindt says both fires were out in about 45 minutes, and the heat-sensing drone operated by O’Brien County Emergency Management confirmed there were no hot spots remaining.

Iin all 45 firefighters responded to the incident and used about 5 thousand gallons of water.

Sheldon Police, Sheldon Community Ambulance, and the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Department also assisted at the scene.

Hindt says the building sustained heavy damage. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
