Des Moines, IA — The Des Moines International Airport recorded 14.5 inches of rain during September. That marks the wettest September in 112 years of records and ranks as the third-wettest month overall, behind only 1881 and 1914.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan tells us more about this historic month.

Glisan reviews Spencer CO-OP Station’s Data.

Current weather conditions should benefit the beginning of the harvest season. Glisan said he has received reports of combines already hitting the fields in northwest Iowa this week.

The first half of October is signaling warmer-than-normal temperatures and drier-than-normal conditions. These weather patterns should provide favorable conditions for harvest activities across much of the region.
