SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) — The 33rd Annual Eggs and Issues brought a full crowd to the Spencer City Hall Council Chambers Saturday.

Residents heard from Senator Dave Rowley, Representative John Wills, and Representative Megan Jones on key issues facing Spencer, Clay County, and Northwest Iowa.

One of the major topics of the morning was eminent domain and the future of carbon pipeline legislation. Senator Dave Rowley said he opposed changes to the House’s original bill but supported moving the amended version forward to keep negotiations alive.

Lawmakers also addressed questions about Iowa’s flat tax and property tax pressures. Representative Megan Jones told attendees the state anticipated short-term revenue dips following recent income-tax reforms.

Jones also highlighted emerging drug trends, noting new substances are creating new challenges for local law enforcement.

Other topics included the House’s new crime-reduction package, ICE enforcement, and broader concerns about government overreach.
