Rock rapids, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office has released new details and jarring photos of the destruction inside the courthouse in Rock Rapids.

The images show a scene of pure chaos: shattered glass at the entrance of the law library, furniture smashed to pieces, and Christmas trees ripped down and left lying across the marble floors. Investigators say the vandals even scrawled graffiti on the walls and used some type of explosive or destructive device during the break-in.

Thanks to security footage, the Sheriff’s Office says they have identified the suspects. Warrants are currently being requested for a long list of felonies and misdemeanors, including 3rd-degree burglary and criminal mischief.

Authorities are withholding the suspects’ names until those warrants are officially signed, but they expect to release those identities soon. For now, the courthouse remains closed as crews work to repair the heavy damage.
