SHELDON, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A Paullina man is facing multiple charges after being found asleep in a running van at a gas station in Sheldon.

Officers were called to the Kwik Star around 9:30 Saturday morning, on August 2, where they found 37-year-old Marc Daniel Gibbons asleep behind the wheel of a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan. The vehicle was still running.

When officers woke him, they say Gibbons had bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and impaired balance. He failed field sobriety tests at the scene.

During a search, police found a black zippered container in Gibbons’ pocket. Inside was a glass pipe with a bulb at the end, containing a partially burnt white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine. A knife with a blade longer than five inches was also found in the driver’s side door.

While being detained, Gibbons attempted to run. Officers brought him to the ground, but he continued to resist arrest. One officer suffered abrasions to his knees during the struggle.

Gibbons is charged with second-offense operating while under the influence, third or subsequent offense possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, and interference with official acts causing injury.
