Des Moines, IA — The month of March featured a couple of notable temperature swings, with winterlike cold giving way to brief spring warmth. State Climatologist Justin Glisan breaks down how March temperatures stacked up across Iowa.

March brought wetter-than-normal conditions to much of Iowa, though snowfall was limited for most areas. One exception was northwest Iowa, where Spencer picked up more than three inches of snow from several late-season events. Glisan breaks down the month’s precipitation trends.

Glisan says looking ahead to the month of April, Iowans can expect a fairly active first half of the month with numerous thunderstorm/rain chances and periods of warmer-than-normal temperatures. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, a few stronger storms could develop at times, particularly across portions of central and southern Iowa, especially during warmer stretches.
