SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) — A major technology upgrade is already improving how patients access care and communicate with providers at Spencer Hospital.

Vice President of Information Technology and Security Ed Meyer was this week’s guest on the Clay County Health Update.

The hospital recently completed its transition to the Epic electronic health record system.

The Epic system replaces the hospital’s previous Meditech platform and is now used across departments for everything from patient care to scheduling and communication.

Patients may notice changes through the MyChart portal, which allows them to view test results, appointments, and medical records, as well as communicate directly with their care provider.

Meyer adds the system also improves coordination with larger healthcare networks nationwide, reducing duplicate testing and ensuring providers have access to critical patient information, even when care is received outside the area.
