Peterson, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — As our nation celebrates its 250th anniversary, we can reflect on the local roots of our history by exploring the Kirchner Log House—an 1867 relic in Peterson, Iowa, that offers a direct look at the early settlement and enduring legacy of the Northwest Iowa frontier.

The Northwest Iowa Archaeological Society (NWIAS) is hosting a presentation on the historic Kirchner Log House in Peterson, Iowa.  Mark Anderson is the Sanford Museum Archeologist.

The talk, held on May 3 at 2:00 pm, will detail the 2024 archaeological excavations conducted at the 1867 site. Presenters will cover the history of the Kirchner family and their impact on the region, along with recent restoration efforts that helped secure the building’s place on the National Register of Historic Places.

Attendees can view an exhibition of recovered artifacts before and after the presentation.

The Kirchner Log House is located at 4969 120th Avenue, just north of Peterson. (turn right on gravel before going down the hill into Peterson)
