Sheldon, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Sheldon/South O’Brien hosted a triangular Dual meet for both boys and girls wrestling on Thursday night in Sheldon.

The evening started with Okoboji/HMS and Sheldon/South O’Brien taking each other on.

In the Girls Dual, The Orabs gave up 36 points on 6 open weight classes while the Pioneers gave 6. Both teams were open at 100. In full matches, Sheldon/South O’Brien had the edge 24-18, but Okoboji/HMS would pick up the 54-24 win on the evening.

In the Boys Dual, Sheldon/South O’Brien had two open weight classes to give 12 points to Okoboji/HMS. The Pioneers had the advantage in 4 weight classes 40-26 and came away with the 52-26 win.

Next up, the Sibley-Ocheyedan Girls gave up 6 open classes themselves for 36 points. In full matches, The Generals had the advantage 18-12 but the Generals came away with the 54-18 win.

The Sibley-Ocheyedan boys had 3 open classes, giving Okoboji/HMS 18 points. The Pioneers outscored Sibley-Ocheyedan 46-12 in filled classes and came away with a 65-12 win to cap off the evening 2-0.

Sibley-Ocheyedan and South O’Brien capped off the evening. Sibley-Ocheyedan girls had 6 open weight classes for 36 Orab points while Sheldon/South O’Brien forfeited 4 classes for 24 General points. Sibley-Ocheyedan had the edge in full matches 12-0 to tie the match at 36. Sheldon/South O’Brien took the dual due to the forfeited matches tiebreaker.

The best dual of the night came between the Sheldon/South O’Brien and Sibley-Ocheyedan Boys. There, Sheldon/South O’Brien forfeited two matches for 12 points to Sibley-Ocheyedan while the Generals forfeited 3 matches for 18 Orab points. In the full weight classes, Sibley-Ocheyedan had the advantage 26-22. The Dual came down to the heavyweight match when Sibley-Ocheyedan had a 4 piont lead, and Jack Leng of Sheldon/South O’Brien pinned the Generals 285 pounder Tommy Wietzema to give the Orabs a 39-37 win in the dual.
