Milford, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The Iowa Department of Education has named Okoboji PE and Health instructor Abby Goodlaxon as the 2027 Teacher of the Year in the Prairie Lakes AEA Region.

Goodlaxon is a native of Emmetsburg, who says developing relationships is the key to being an effective educator.

And Goodlaxon says it helps to work in a supportive district.

There are nine teachers of the year – one for each Area Education region. The Iowa Teacher of the Year will be announced later this fall.
