SPENCER, IA (Northwestiowanow) — An investigation into threatening messages found at Spencer High School earlier this week has resulted in charges against two juveniles.

The Spencer Police Department says officers were alerted to the situation on Tuesday, March 10, after a concerning message was discovered inside a restroom at the school. As the investigation continued, additional similar messages were found in other restrooms over the course of several days.

Police say the investigation led to two students being held responsible. Authorities noted the juveniles acted separately and not together. After review, investigators determined the threats were not credible.

In a statement sent to families, Spencer Community School District Superintendent Terry Heman said classes will continue with an additional law enforcement presence. School officials did not specify how long the increased police presence will remain in place.

Heman added that the students involved will face school discipline as well as legal consequences. He also encouraged parents and guardians to speak with students about the seriousness of making threats or spreading rumors, emphasizing that such behavior can disrupt learning and carry lasting consequences.
