Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The special election to fill the Ward 5 council seat in Spencer will be Tuesday, April 28th.

Newly elected councilman Chuck Illg resigned the position last week after being informed he could not work part-time at the city’s golf course and serve as an elected official at the same time.

The rest of the city council met in special session Monday night and voted to call for a special election to fill the remainder of the 4-year term. After the city officially notified the county of that decision, County Election Commissioner Ann Baschke set the date.

Interested candidates must live within the ward, complete an affidavit, and submit a petition with 50 valid signatures by 5pm April 3rd.
The council also had the option of appointing someone to fill the vacancy.
