Spencer Man Dead Following Traffic Accident

Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The accident that shut down traffic on B-24 West of Spencer Tuesday morning proved fatal to one of the drivers.

The Iowa State Patrol says 35-year-old Ryan Cundiff of Spencer was Westbound in a Chevy Traverse when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck an Eastbound GMC Arcadia operated by 20-year-old Gabriel Campbell of Hartley.

Cundiff was not wearing a safety belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Campbell and a 5-year-old who was in one of the vehicles were taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. The trooper says their lives WERE likely saved by seatbelts.

The accident was reported at 7:23am. Spencer Police and the Clay County Sheriff’s Department assisted.
