Spencer, IA (northwestiowanow) — A Spencer man faces several charges, including a felony, after allegedly leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Dickinson County.
On October 31st, officers with the Arnolds Park Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle driven by 20-year-old Jason Hauschen after he was observed traveling southbound on Highway 71 at 61 miles per hour in a posted 45 mile-per-hour zone.
According to court records, instead of stopping, Hauschen accelerated to speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour as he continued south on Highway 71.
The pursuit continued through the Arnolds Park area onto Terrace Park Boulevard and 202nd Street before heading back toward Highway 71. Authorities say Hauschen continued southbound into Milford before losing control of the motorcycle near P Avenue and crashing into a shop building.
Hauschen has been charged with eluding while exceeding the speed limit by more than 25 miles per hour, a Class D felony. He also faces charges of driving while suspended, fraudulent use of registration, speeding, interference with official acts, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and failure to obey a stop or yield sign.
Investigators further allege the motorcycle displayed fraudulent license plates and did not have valid registration or insurance.
Court records show Hauschen was initially held in the Dickinson County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He was released from custody after posting bond on November 3rd.
