Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — If you’re east of Grand Avenue, you might hear the sound of chainsaws a little earlier than usual. Spencer’s winter tree pruning is officially underway.
Snyder Tree Service is hitting the north side of town today, working their way south toward East 4th Street. They’re specifically looking for hazards and dead wood in the “right-of-way”—that’s the area between your sidewalk and the curb. This work is a key part of the city’s Urban Forestry Plan, and it won’t cost property owners anything.
Parks Director Bob Fullhart recently noted that the city is also continuing its separate battle against the Emerald Ash Borer, focusing on removing dead ash trees to keep the community safe.
If you live in the work zone, keep an eye out for orange cones. You might need to move your car for a few hours or navigate a quick road closure while the crews do their thing. They plan to have all the saws tucked away and the branches cleared by March 31st.
