Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — The Spencer Community School District and the Spencer Family YMCA are teaming up to make life a little easier for local parents, and they just got a $100,000 boost from the state to do it.

This funding is part of Governor Kim Reynolds’ $5.2 million “Continuum of Care” grant cycle, which aims to bridge the gap between part-day preschool and full-day child care for working families.

Johnson Elementary Principal Brooke Schueller and Spencer YMCA Childcare Director Amy Kuehler say the goal is to create a seamless experience for kids and parents alike.

Amy Kuehler is Spencer YMCA Childcare Director, and says they are already talking with families for next school year.

Schueller notes the partnership is in response to public feedback.

The new state funding will help the two groups work together to start this initiative in the fall.

Spencer is one of 19 schools that received part of Governor Kim Reynold’s Continuum of Care, which in total awarded $5.2 million total this cycle for part-day preschool and full-day childcare for working families.
