Spencer Swim Team’s Sears Hits Two State Standards at Mason City

Mason City, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Girls Swim team competed at the Mason City Riverhawk Invitational on Saturday.

Emily Schmidt would take 7th in the 100m Backstroke and the Tiger 400m Freestyle Relay of Ava Vogt, Schmidt, Ryonna Faulkender, and Hallie Brown were 7th as well.

Lily Gross would take 6th in the 50m Freestyle.  Ella Kasperbauer took 6th in the 100m Breaststroke.

A couple of KICD relays took 2nd.  Halle Sears, Kasperbauer, Gross, and Vogt in the Medley Relay then Vogt, Kasperbauer, Gross, and Sears in the 200m Freestyle Relay.

The Tigers won 3 events.  Halle Sears would win the 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Butterfly while Lily Gross claimed Gold in the 100m Breaststroke.  Sears’ times in the 200m Individual Medley and 100m Butterfly were good enough to make the cut for the State Meet and set school records.

Northwest of Waukee won the Invitational with 504.5 points, just ahead of their cross town rival Waukee with 421.  The Spencer Tigers placed 3rd with 258 points.  Algona finished 8th with 106.

Spencer Coach Amie Lawrence said, “We had a great meet today and are again so proud at the effort all of the swimmers put into their races and supporting each other”

Next up for the Tigers is a trip to Waterloo for an invitational on Saturday.
