Storm Lake Fire Department Fight Fast-moving Structure Fire Monday

Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) – A tragic morning unfolded near Storm Lake, Iowa, as a fast-moving structure fire claimed the lives of several animals and heavily damaged two outbuildings on October 20, 2025.

The Storm Lake Fire Department was called to 731 550th St at 10:12 a.m. and arrived to find one outbuilding fully engulfed, with flames already spreading to a second structure. Alta Fire Department was called for mutual aid.

Firefighters and the occupants of the property worked quickly to save approximately 10 dogs and several cats from the second building. Crews aggressively fought the fire, bringing it under control quickly. Sadly, the owners lost several dogs in the blaze.

Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to ensure all hotspots were extinguished. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Storm Lake Fire Department extended condolences to the family and thanks to the Alta Fire Department, Buena Vista Regional Medical Center ambulances, and the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
