Tiger Girls Open Season with Route of West Sioux

Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The 2026 regular season opened up for the Spencer Girls Soccer Team and the Northwest Iowa Soccer League Tuesday.  West Sioux was the visiting team on the scoreboard as the two teams collided for the first match of the season.

Avery McEntee, Spencer’s top returner in assists and scoring, started the Tigers season with a goal in the 2nd minute to make it 1-0.

Spencer added to their lead in the second 10 minutes of play with Ingrid Gustafson picking up her first on the year in the 12th minute and Avery McEntee hitting a Penalty Kick after a West Sioux handball in the penalty area to make it 3-0 in the 14th minute.

Spencer Sophomore Halle Sears made the lead 4 with a goal in the 30th minute.

Faith Staedtler would score the Tigers’ 5th and final goal of the first half in the 39th minute, giving Spencer a 5-0 lead going into the locker room.

Avery McEntee was able to connect with her sister Alayna for Spencer’s first goal in the second half, extending the Tigers’ lead to 6 in the 46th minute.

The Spencer offense would slow up over the next 25 minutes, but the Tigers picked up a flurry of 3 goals in the final 10 minutes, two from Avery Metcalf and another from Sears.

Spencer improves to 1-0-0 on the year and prepare for a big weekend in Council Bluffs where they will face #7 in 1A St. Albert (CB) and Lincoln (CB).

West Sioux prepares for a matchup at home in Hawarden against Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan as they fall to 0-1-0.
