Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Softball team hosted Spirit Lake on Monday night in Lakes Conference action.

Jersey Vail got the start for Spencer and quickly dispatched the first 3 Spirit Lake batters she faced.

Both Dakota Lux and Mercedes Kreig reached base to begin the bottom of the first.  Lucy Simington drove them in for her 8th and 9th RBI on the season.

Simington would later score when Vail knocked her in with a single.  Jasmyn Christensen would bring her home later that inning for her Christensen’s team leading 10th RBI and Spencer led 4-0 going into the 2nd.

Spirit Lake achieved a base runner via a single by Avery Beisell, but Vail struck out the other three in the top of the 2nd.

Lux led things off in the 2nd inning with another base hit and Simington reached on an error.  Vail knocked both of them in with a double, moving in front of Christensen for the lead on the team in RBI.

Kelsi Sonious curtesy ran for Vail and would score on an error.  Madison Steven drove in Brynn Merchant on an RBI single to make it 8-0 going into the 3rd.

Each team went 3-up-3-down in the 3rd inning, and Vail notched another scoreless frame in the top of the 4th, giving Spencer an opportunity to end the game early in the 4th with a 10-run mercy rule if they scored twice.

Vail reached on an error and would be driven in by Merchant on a double.  Merchant put together some good base running for the game winning run.

Spencer improves to 10-0 on the season and 5-0 in the Lakes Conference.  The Tigers will get ready for a Tuesday matchup on the road against Okoboji.

Spirit Lake falls to 3-9 with a 1-4 Lakes Conference tally and will have a difficult test on Tuesday against Unity Christian of Orange City.
