Sioux City, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Football team was on the road Thursday night for a Class 4A District 1 matchup against West of Sioux City.

Spencer started off strong, going on an 11 play, 6 minute and 21 second drive that resulted in a Temi Otaniyi Touchdown.  After the Tiger defense forced a stop, Spencer went on a 13 play, just over 6-minute march to score another Temi Otaniyi Touchdown and go up 14-0.

Play started getting sloppy after that.  West High fumbled the football on the next drive.  The very next play, Spencer would fumble, and The Wolverine’s Micah Prokop took returned it 36 yards for a Touchdown to get West on the board.

The score held at 14-7 going into halftime.  West put together a strong drive to open up things in the 3rd quarter, with Tavin Irvine breaking free for an impressive 33-yard Touchdown run, tying the game at 14.

It was all Tigers the rest of the way though.  Spencer got another Touchdown run from Otaniyi, and while the defense managed to contain Irvine, the Tigers scored another Touchdown late in the 4th quarter with Jaxson Buum to bring what would be the final score of 28-14.

Each team’s sloppy play reflected in the stats postgame, with Spencer turning over the football 3 times and West of Sioux City amassing 14 penalties for 117 yards.

The Wolverine’s Tavin Irvine completed 6 of his 14 passes for 80 yards while running the ball 17 times for 67 yards and a Touchdown.  West High is now 4-3 on the year and 1-2 in Class 4A District 1.  They are back home again next week against #2 Sergeant Bluff-Luton.

Spencer’s Temi Otaniyi carried the ball 36 times on the evening for 135 yards and 3 Touchdowns in the win.  Spencer improves to 5-2 with a District mark of 3-0.  Their final home game of the regular season will be next week against Storm Lake.
