Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges for Laurens Woman in Pocahontas County

Pocahontas County, IA (Northwestiowanow) — An early morning traffic stop in Pocahontas County led to drug charges for a Laurens woman Saturday.

On August 1st at approximately 1:00 a.m., deputies with the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a red Toyota Corolla near the intersection of Section Line Road and North Rush Lake Road.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Amy Lyn Heitman of Laurens, was allegedly found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Heitman was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine), First Offense, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

According to court records, Heitman was also cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability and Operation Without Registration Card or Plate, both scheduled violations.

Following her arrest, Heitman was transported to the Pocahontas County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 unit assisted with the investigation.
