STORM LAKE, IA (Northwestiowanow) – A Storm Lake man is facing multiple charges after a traffic stop early Sunday morning turned into a low-speed pursuit through city streets.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, the incident began around 12:04 a.m. on August 24, when an officer initiated a traffic stop in the 600 block of Erie Street for a traffic violation. During the stop, a police K9 was deployed and detected the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 40-year-old Jaime Miramontes, refused to exit the vehicle when instructed and fled the scene. Officers followed at low speeds as Miramontes reportedly threw evidence out of the window. The pursuit ended in the 700 block of College Avenue, where officers took Miramontes into custody without further incident.

Miramontes was arrested and charged with eluding, operating while intoxicated third offense, interference with official acts, possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a domestic abuser, and hemp inhalation.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
