Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Spencer played host to Western Christian out of Hull Friday night at Dale Norton Field.

The Wolfpack dashed for a 70 Punt Return for a Touchdown to open up the scoring, but Spencer responded with a long, 11-play drive that ended with Kam Young finding the endzone to tie it up at 7 on the PAT.

The Tigers would find the endzone again early in the 2nd quarter after a 14-play drive ended in a 1-yard Kam Young Touchdown run, his 7th on the season, giving Spencer a 14-7 lead.

Western Christian came back when Quarterback Landon De Stigter connected with Lane Jacobsma on a quick pass that Jacobsma took 42 yards for a Touchdown. The PAT was blocked so Spencer held the 14-13 lead.

Before the half, the Wolfpack hit a 38-yard Field goal to regain the lead at 16-14.

The Turnover bug bit Spencer hard in the 2nd half, fumbling twice and throwing an interception.

Dylan Timmer did get his first rushing score on the year, going 15 yards for a Touchdown that gave Spencer a 21-16 lead after the PAT.

Western Christian would score on the next drive as De Stigter found his top target, Kolby Heemskerk for a 22-yard Touchdown Pass. The Wolfpack failed the 2-point conversion, making it 22-21 in favor of Western Christian.

Spencer put together a late drive deep into Western Christian territory, but threw an interception on a 4th and 8, giving Western Christian the ball back with just over 90 seconds to play.

The Tigers were able to give themselves just a sliver of hope at the end though, forcing a 3-and-out.

On the Punt, Western Christian was called for Kick-catch interference, which moved the ball to the 41-yard line of the Wolfpack. This gave the Tigers a rare opportunity for a free kick off the tee. Hunter Pearson had the distance on the 51-yard Field Goal attempt, but it hit the left upright, giving Western Christian the 22-21 win.

For the second time this season, Spencer outgained their opponents, but lost the Turnover battle by multiple, thus losing the game. The Tigers had 299 yards of total offense, 286 on the ground. Kam Young carried the Football 28 times for 130 yards and a pair of scores. The Tigers had 4 Turnovers to Western Christian’s 2.

Western Christian is now 2-1 on the year and will play at home to open up District play against Sheldon.

The Tigers fall to 1-2 on the season and will wrap up non-district play next week against Sioux Center.
