LAURENS, IA (Northwestiowanow) — More information has been released about a high-speed pursuit that ended in a rollover crash last month.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement Tuesday, May 26, detailing the incident that occurred on Monday, May 18.  According to authorities, deputies were attempting to question 43-year-old Jonathan Edward Meier of Omaha in connection with a burglary and theft investigation from May 10.

When deputies made contact, Meier allegedly fled in a 2005 black Chevrolet Silverado and refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit that continued for several miles into Laurens.  Authorities say Meier drove onto railroad tracks for about two blocks. While attempting to exit the tracks, Meier lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over. He was ejected and later transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries.

Court records show Meier now faces multiple traffic citations from the pursuit, including failure to obey traffic control devices, excessive speeding, failure to maintain control of the vehicle, operating without proper registration, failure to provide proof of financial liability, and not wearing a seatbelt.  All charges remain pending.

Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Laurens Police and Fire Departments, Pocahontas Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, and Union Pacific Railroad.
